What I Teach
Most youth aggression is non-criminal and consists of name-calling, social exclusion, rumors, etc. These behaviors are inevitable between siblings at home and peers at school. Despite the pettiness of these behaviors, they can do tremendous emotional harm to a student. I teach students how to protect their emotions from the effects of these behaviors through emotional resilience. I also teach them how to respond in a way that stops the aggression immediately.
My 45-50 minute high-energy keynote is interactive, full of excellent information, and can be applied to any non-criminal aggression at home, on campus, or online.
Why I Do It
In the aftermath of the Columbine shooting in 1999, my friends (who were Columbine survivors) asked me to join them on their mission to travel, speak, and help schools reduce aggression on campus. That journey led me to study the source of aggression and find simple solutions that parents and educators can teach to their students.
Over time, and with the help of mentors in the field, I have become a leading resilience educator who has developed powerful techniques to relieve children of needless suffering. The thousands of "thank you" messages I have received over the years keep me doing this work. Anyone who listens to my teachings can sense that this work is my calling in life.
